GEOHAZARDS

Ecora undertakes geohazard assessments. If the hazard has not been determined, Ecora typically adopts the thresholds defined by Cave 1993. Based on this paper, the following geohazards are considered; mountain stream erosion and avulsion, debris flows, debris floods, small-scale landslides, snow avalanches, rock fall and, large scale landsides.

If the hazard frequency predicted exceeds the defined thresholds, remedial measures can be designed to mitigate these hazards. Ecora can provide design of the following:

• Erosion protection such as rip rap or concrete mattress protection
• Debris flow barrier design
• Slope remediation design
• Shear keys
• Toe buttress design
• Soil nails
• Soil anchors
• Counterfort drains
• Geogrid reinforcement
• Slope flattening
• Recommendations on set-back or set-forward distances
• Rock fall protection mesh, attenuators, rock bolts, scaling, trim blasting, etc.
