PROJECT SUMMARY

Client: Westpark Electric Ltd.

Location: Tipella, Harrison Lake, British Columbia

Summary: Geotechnical, civil and structural support for a new substation

Ecora was retained by Westpark Electric Ltd. (Westpark) to carry out a geotechnical site assessment for the proposed Bremner Trio substation near Tipella, BC. The project comprises an extension to the existing BC Hydro Upper Harrison Terminal (UHT) substation.

The scope of our geotechnical services included:

• A desktop study including review of published geology maps, historical air photos, water well logs, existing geotechnical information and review of information for the existing substation.

• An intrusive geotechnical site investigation consisting of advancement of boreholes with SPTs, downhole shear wave velocity testing and associated laboratory testing.

• A geotechnical assessment including settlement calculations, liquefaction triggering analysis, earthworks recommendations, foundation design, site development recommendations and pavement design.

• Preparation of a geotechnical assessment report.

Based on the detailed liquefaction triggering assessment and settlement assessment, Ecora’s geotechnical design team were able to eliminate the need for ground improvement. The gathering of quality data enabled us to make this decision based on sound geotechnical information and enabled significant cost savings on the project.

The substation is being supported on shallow foundations and is currently under construction. Ecora is providing foundation inspections during construction. It should be noted that Ecora also completed the civil and structural design of the substation
